Easy Chicken Pakora Recipe

This Easy Chicken Pakora recipe features tender chicken pieces coated in a spiced chickpea flour (besan) batter and fried until crispy and golden. Naturally gluten-free and halal-friendly, these pakoras are a perfect crunchy snack for Ramadan iftar. Can be deep-fried or air-fried for a lighter version.

Equipment

  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 Deep frying pan or pot
  • 1 Slotted spoon
  • 1 - Paper towels

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb Boneless chicken breast or thighs cut into small cubes
  • 1 cup Chickpea flour Besan
  • 1 pcs small onion thinly sliced
  • 1 green chili finely chopped (optional)
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • ½ tsp Turmeric
  • ½ tsp Red chili powder
  • ½ tsp Garam masala
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 tbsp Chopped fresh cilantro
  • ½ cup Water as needed
  • Oil for frying

Instructions
 

  • In a bowl, combine chickpea flour, spices, salt, and cilantro.
  • Add sliced onions and chicken pieces.
  • Gradually add water until thick batter forms (not runny).
  • Heat oil over medium heat.
  • Drop spoonfuls of batter into hot oil.
  • Fry 4–5 minutes, turning occasionally, until deep golden brown.
  • Remove and drain on paper towels.

Air Fryer Method:

  • Lightly spray pakoras with oil.
  • Air fry at 390°F for 12–14 minutes, flipping halfway.

Notes

Extra Crispy Tip: Add 1 tablespoon rice flour to batter. Freezer Tip: Freeze after frying and reheat in air fryer at 350°F for 5 minutes. Kid-Friendly: Skip green chili and reduce red chili powder.
